Larry N. Menke

Larry N. Menke, the son of Burdette and Lillian (Buss) Menke, was born August 12, 1953, in Sioux County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee, IA, where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School. He entered the Military serving with the U.S. Marine Corp. Following his military service, Larry moved to Portland, OR, where he worked at a machine shop. He was united in marriage and had one son, Jeremy Menke. After several years, Larry moved back to Cherokee and the surrounding area and worked for his brother Randy doing construction. Larry enjoyed playing pool, darts, and listening to jazz music. Most of all Larry loved being around his friends and family. On December 30, 2009, Larry passed away at Countryside Estates in Cherokee, IA, following a long battle with cancer. He was 56. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burdette and Lillian Menke; one brother, Kenny Menke; and one sister, Linda McDonald. He is survived by one son, Jeremy Menke of Portland, OR; one sister, Darlene (Jack) Agnitsch of Cherokee, IA; three brothers: Rick (Jeanette) Menke of Lincoln, NE, Jerry (Vicki) Menke of Cherokee, IA, and Randy (Kathy) Menke of Cherokee, IA; one brother-in-law, Jim McDonald of Cherokee, IA; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

VISITATION
A public gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2009, starting at 5:00 P.M. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
