Lois Ann Hobson

January 27, 1929 — October 22, 2019

   Lois Ann Hobson, age 90, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on October 22, 2019 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.  Memorial services will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will be held from noon on Saturday until service time with the family present at the church. The Greenwood-Shubert funeral home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

    Lois, the daughter of Andrew and Esther (Hansen) Sorensen was born during a blizzard on January 27th, 1929. She attended Latimer public schools and furthered her education at Luther College in Decorah, IA where she received her teaching certificate. She went on to teach elementary school in Alexander and West Liberty, IA.

  She was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Hobson in 1949, and spent many years raising a family, traveling, and enjoying life. A talented musician, Lois taught piano lessons for over 30 years and accompanied her church choir, and other numerous events. She was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, led bible studies, served on the ELCW board of directors, and participated in Christ Care.  She volunteered much of her time to the community serving on boards of the Red Cross, Sioux Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Sanford Museum, and the newly created hospice services. She dearly loved watching the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had time for a proper hug. She also enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and playing cards and games. Lois will be remembered for her kind heart, friendly smile, and her love of music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, Andrew and Esther Sorensen, and two sisters, Marilyn Heineking and Rhogene Sorensen.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Dan (Sandra) Hobson of Des Moines; Kathleen Hobson of Rock Island, IL; and Joelle (Frank) Pigott of Cherokee, IA; five grandchildren: Jason (Megan) Pigott, Christopher (Shelby) Pigott, Jennifer (Jake) Dyslin, Sarah (Stewart) Calvert, and Laura (Todde Williams) Hobson; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Sorensen of Kirkland, WA, and a sister, Caryl Vande Voort of Kentwood, MI as well as many other friends and family.

SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
