Lucille L. Ohlson

Lucille L. (Larson) Ohlson, the daughter of George A. and Myrtle (Casey) Larson, was born in Cherokee, IA on August 26, 1935. She was educated in the local schools, and graduated from Wilson High School in 1953. Except for a brief time in California, Lucille spent the majority of her life in Cherokee. In March of 1976, she was united in marriage to Vernon R. Ohlson. She received training as a nursing service aide, and worked in the psychiatric department at Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 20 years, retiring in 1992. She also worked as a type setter for the Cherokee Daily Times in the commercial department. Lucille and Vernon loved to travel, and did so all over the United States. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. It was important to her to keep up with current events and politics. She enjoyed listening to Country music. She was an active member of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. She was an avid reader and volunteered for the Historical Society at the Cherokee Public Library. Following a brief illness, Lucille passed away at the Country Side Estates in Cherokee on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Larson, her husband, Vernon, two brothers, Jim Larson and Bob Larson, and a step-daughter-in-law, Virginia Ohlson. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Doug Raymer and his wife Dawn of Coquille, OR, and David Wilson of Cherokee; step-son, Larry Ohlson of LeMars, IA, and step-daughter, Susie (Ohlson)Wilson and husband Mike of Springfield, MO; a brother, Don Larson and his wife Ruth of Milwaukee, WI; three grandchildren, Dr. Jordan Raymer of Marshfield, WI, Michael Raymer of Portland, OR, and Canaan Raymer of Los Angeles, CA and two step-grandchildren, Callie (Ohlson) Hodgson, and Gabe (Amanda) Ohlson; great-grandchildren, Nolan Hodgson, Aryn and Emily Ohlson; nieces and nephews, Rhonda, Steve, and Daniel Larson; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa
