Lyle Dean Kruger, the son of Helmer and Lydia (Christians) Kruger was born November 10, 1937 in Rock Rapids, IA. Lyle learned as a young child the gift of gab. His aunts raised him, having lost his mother at the age of 2. When Lyle's father married Lena he attended school in Ashton and learned the carpentry trade from his father. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army for two years. When he returned home he opened a mechanic shop in Royal, IA with his brother Helmer. Moving to Cherokee, he worked for Peterson Motors and drove truck for Van Top Inc, before opening his own repair shop, Kruger Repair. He then went to work for Christianson Brothers where he spent 25 years as the shop manager.
