Marian Tallman

Marian Elaine (Shellenberger) Tallman, the daughter of William and Loretta (Smith) Shellenberger, was born on September 24, 1914, at Nemaha, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent primarily in Early, Iowa, where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She then received her teaching certificate from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA. She spent five years teaching in a one-room school near Nemaha. On January 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Tallman, Sr. They made their home in Boone, IA. Joe soon went off to serve his country, and as a military wife, Marian lived in Ft. Claiborne, LA, Storm Lake, IA, and Muskogee, OK. They later lived in Des Moines, IA before settling in Cherokee. Marian was a devoted housewife and mother to their eight children. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, gardening, reading and watching CNN. Joe passed away on Feb 24, 1976. Marian continued living at home in Cherokee until moving to her current apartment at Otsego Place assisted living in Storm Lake. Following a brief illness, she passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake on Friday, December 14, 2012, at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; one son, William; a granddaughter, Carrie; great-granddaughter, Maggie; five sisters, Marie Wallisch, Winifred Gray, Helen Elbert, Joan Fleming and Clarice Scott; and a brother, Robert Shellenberger. Her memory will always be cherished by her children and their families: Ellen Tallman of Granger, IA, Joseph(Sue) Tallman, Jr. of Newark, DE, Anne (Richard) Johnston of Portsmouth, NH, Mary Lou (Donald) Krukow of Lakeville, MN, Gerald (Connie) Tallman of Lake Sherwood, MO, Steven (Joan) Tallman of Granger, IA, and David Tallman of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law Julie (Mrs. William) Tallman of Cottage Grove, MN; three sisters, Clela Miller of Storm Lake, IA, Rose Elbert of Mankato, MN, and Paula Quinn of Minnetonka, MN; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Services will be Monday, December 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will be at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A prayer service at the funeral home will follow at 7:00 p.m.
