Marie Ellen Jones

Marie was born on February 3, 1955 at Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake, IA to parents John and Lucille (Dryer) Jones.  Marie was a twin to Mille (Jones) Bruhn.  Marie graduated from Aurelia High School in 1973.  After graduation, Marie attended Buena Vista University for one year in Storm Lake, IA to become a teacher.  She left college to marry the love of her life, Jerry Jones. 

Marie worked a short while at Lundell Manufacturing, Hy-Vee Deli, Dairy Queen and Liberty Foods.  She started doing licensed daycare in her home to many young children over the years.  She loved the little kids and became friends to the families.  Later, she worked in the cafeteria at Roosevelt School enjoying  the students.

Marie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved sports.  After high school, Marie played softball and volleyball with her sisters.  Millie and Shirley were chosen to play on an all star team for softball.  Marie was referee for co-ed adult volleyball games for many years.

Marie Ellen Jones of Cherokee, IA passed away at the age of 67 early Sunday morning, August 21, 2022 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  John and Lucille Jones; brother, Tim Jones; and nieces, Shannon and daughter, Selena; brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones, Jim Beck and Butch Hope.

Marie is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Jones of Cherokee, IA, daughters, Danielle and (Krista) Jones and children Axton (A.J.) and Kohen of Des Moines, IA;  Jennifer and (Steve) Curtis and children Trevor and Kaleb of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Shirley Beck of Cherokee, IA; Millie (Tim) Bruhn of Cherokee, IA; brothers,  Jerry (Sharry) Jones of Spirit Lake, IA; Leon Jones of Cherokee, IA; Tom (Carla) Jones of Aurelia, IA; and Dave Jones of Cherokee, IA; sisters-in-law, Wanita Hope of Amarillo, Texas, Mona (Dennis) Cargin of Amarillo, Texas; Becky (Tom) Ruth of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Betty (Jim) Harman of Cherokee, IA; Kris (Jeff) Peters of Colorado Springs, CO and Karla (Kevin) Wilkie of Cherokee, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
