Martha Catherine Anderson

Martha Catherine Anderson, the daughter of Joel and Hedvig (Erlandson) Benson was born April 18, 1914, in Cherokee County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee where she attended school and graduated from Wilson High School. After graduation, Martha remained in Cherokee where she cared for her mother. She was united in marriage to Elmer H. Anderson. Following their marriage they moved to Larrabee where she worked as a homemaker. Following the death of her husband, Martha moved back to Cherokee in 1976. Martha was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, a member of the Sewing Club, and helped with Ladies Aid. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and flowers, but most of all she enjoyed being around her family and spending time at Lake Okoboji. On Tuesday, December 15, 2009 Martha passed away at Countryside Estates in Cherokee at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer H. Anderson, in 1972; her parents Joel and Hedvig Benson; two sisters, Bernice Phipps and Lucille Ryden two cousins: Beulah Freed and Opal Freed. She is survived by one son, Dennis (Patty Anderson) of Larrabee, IA; three grandsons: Todd (Sheila) Anderson of Cherokee, IA, Joel Anderson and special friend Dew Linstrom of Boise, ID, and Scott (Jennifer) Anderson of Forsyth, MT; three great-grandchildren:, Cooper and Tucker Anderson, and Samantha Grayson; three nephews: , Carl (Mary Louise) Gustafson of Minnesota, and Ray (Mary) Gustafson of Boston, Mass; Gary (Jan) Ryden of Washington; three nieces: Jolene (Roger) Niemeyer of Perry, IA, Linda (John) Erickson of Crystal Lake, IL, and Joann (Russ) Wilson of Ames, IA; as well as other relatives and friends.
