Martin Luke Zauhar

October 18, 1935 — January 21, 2018

  Martin “Marty” the son of Nicholas and Katherine (Polich) Zauhar, was born and grew up in Floodwood, MN. He then served in the U.S. Army.

 Marty married Sheila Maki on June 20, 1964. They moved to Cherokee, IA in 1967 where they raised two daughters. Marty worked for Allied Mills and also for Wilson Foods for 19 years. He was a member of the Toastmasters, the Cherokee Community Credit Union board of directors, The Cherokee City Council and the Knights of Columbus. His talents included being a handyman for many in Cherokee, his love of gardening, woodworking and carving. He will be remembered for his kind heart and attention to detail.

 On Sunday, January 21, 2018, Marty passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

 His family includes his wife, Sheila, of Cherokee; two daughters, Michele (Craig) Emerson of Chaska, MN, and Gina (Mike) O’Leary of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren: Kayla and Carter Emerson and Connor and Lauren O’Leary.
