Mary Perle King

Mary Perle King was born in Oto, Iowa to Ed and Lillian (Petersen) King September 11, 1932. The family moved shortly thereafter to a farm in the Quimby area where Mary Perle attended grade and high school graduating in 1950. She was active in 4-H, band, vocal, and drama. When her parents moved to Minnesota, she decided to attend St. Cloud Teacher's College graduating in 1954. Her first teaching job was in Belgrade, MN, then Marshall, MN before moving to California where she taught middle school and high school in Compton and Anaheim for 39 years retiring in 1963. During her early years in California, she earned her Masters Degree. She was very active in Delta Kappa Gamma and sang in her church choir. Due to health problems she returned to Iowa in 2006 to be near family. On Thursday, November 11, 2010, Mary Perle passed away at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen Iowa at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lillian King; two sisters, Sandra and Rita; sister-in-law, Elaine King; brothers-in-law, James Orrell and Gary Hempel. She is survived by one brother, Ed King of Monticello, MN; sisters: Juanita Hempel of Cherokee, IA, Karen Orrell of Riverside, CA; and several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 15, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon. The Catholic Daughters of America will lead a rosery starting at 4:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
