Mary Ann Unkrur, age 85 of Cherokee, IA passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary of Friday and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Friday night at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary Ann Unkrur, the daughter of Robert and Lois (Hartliep) Bjorkgren was born February 8, 1939, in Aurelia, IA. Here childhood years were spent in Aurelia, where she attended school and graduated from Aurelia High School. After graduation, Mary worked in Albert City and then Sioux City, IA.

On January 7, 1961, Mary was united in marriage to Ted Unkrur at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. They lived on the farm in Rock Township, where she stayed at home raising their two daughters. After her children were grown, she worked for Countryside Estates in Cherokee, IA until her retirement.

Mary was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She enjoyed playing board games and Dominoes. She also liked to square dance, cook and bake. She always kept a clean and comfortable home. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Mary passed away at Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lois Bjorkgren; husband, Ted Unkrur; nephew, Chris Mummert; brother-in-law, Don Mummert; and several other brothers-in-law.

She will lovingly be remembered by her two daughters, Paulette (Julius) Daniel of Red Oak, IA, and Pauline Unkrur of Cherokee, IA; one grandson, Joseph of Red Oak, IA; sister, Ruby Mummert of Omaha, NE; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
