Merle Spieler

July 1, 1940 — September 3, 2015

Merle Peter Spieler, the son of Martin "Abe" and Loretta (Schneider) Spieler was born July 1, 1940, on the family farm near Remsen, IA. Merle attended school in Marcus and graduated from Holy Name Catholic School in 1958. After high school, he worked for a couple years and then joined the Iowa Army National Guard where he served until his honorable discharge in 1968. On June 13, 1964, Merle was united in marriage to Linda Hoyt in Marcus, IA. Following their marriage, Merle worked for Ebert Construction for a few years, farmed, and was a rural mail carrier for 37 years. Merle was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed farming, fishing, golfing, and was an avid Packer fan. He loved watching his children and grandsons play sports- rarely missing an event. He also enjoyed traveling with friends and having coffee at the Junction and morning break at Frederick Welding. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. On September, 3, 2015, Merle passed away suddenly at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.
