Molly A. Lee

May 11, 1937 — June 26, 2018

Marjean “Molly” Ann (Treft) Lee, the daughter of August and Agnes (Canton) Treft, was born May 11, 1937, in Sioux City, IA. Following her graduation from Heelan High School, she moved to Philadelphia for airline training. She then returned to Sioux City and worked as a reservationist for Delta Airlines.

Molly met Kenneth Lee when he knocked on her door selling cookware. Kenny made the sale, and eventually won Molly’s heart as well. The two were married on June 4, 1960. Work would take them to Milwaukee, WI for a few years, but they made their way back to Cherokee when they were able to purchase the Klatt Hardware store. They owned and operated Lee’s Hardware until 1989. Molly then worked at the HyVee Warehouse. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and several card clubs in town. She also enjoyed shopping, doing crafts, reading, going to movies, and “tormenting” her grandchildren.

Molly passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center, at the age of 81. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Kenneth; one son, Patrick; a sister, Janice Fara; and one brother-in-law, Bill Lee.

Survivors include her children: Nancy (Brent) Hofer of Scranton, IA, Tom (Maureen) Lee of Tampa, FL, and Wendy (Ken) Nelson of Sutherland, IA; her grandchildren: Katie, Alex, Scott and Emily Hofer, Ryan and Collin Lee, and Kody, Patrick, Samuel, Thomas and Abigail Nelson; sister-in-law, Linda Lee of Cherokee and brother-in-law, Jack Fara of Akron, IA; nephews, Mark Ege, and Shawn, Bob, Matt and Dave Lee.
