Nellie A Nelson

March 25, 1925 — November 21, 2012

Nellie Alice (Ross) Nelson, daughter of Victor and Alice (Moyse) Ross, was born at Fort Pierre, SD on March 25, 1925. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1944. Following graduation she worked at F.W. Woolworth in Cherokee for many years. She was united in marriage to Garland Nelson on December 14, 1945. The couple farmed in the Minnesota as well as Larrabee, Fulda, and Quimby, Iowa areas. Nellie worked as a nurse's assistant at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for 33 years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crafts and needlework and collecting recipes, especially salad recipes. She thoroughly enjoyed socializing and time spent with her family. She had been a recent resident at The Gardens in Cherokee, and prior to that Countryside Assisted Living, also in Cherokee. Nellie passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center on November 21, 2012, at age 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Marilyn Kelly and a brother Maynard Ross. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sam (Ramona) Nelson of Freeborn, MN, Jim (Nancy) Nelson of Cherokee, Nancy (Duane) Medick of Elkhart, IA; 11 grandchildren, Bill (Jill) Nelson, Mindy (Dave) Heine, Joe Nelson, Misty (John) Zacharias, Lisa (Mark) Schroeder, Emelee (Jason) Timmerman, Ed (Nancy) Nelson, Audrey (Dan) Pitts, and Kimberly, Katie and Adam Medick; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Donald Nelson of Littleton, CO, sister-in-law, Marcella Nelson of Cherokee, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert D. and Mary Nelson of Cherokee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will be Saturday, November 24th, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
