Paul Kohns

Paul Kohns, the son of Peter P. and Elizabeth (Heller) Kohns was born November 4, 1910, in rural Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he received his education. On July 8, 1933 Paul was united in marriage to Austrid Carlson at Maryhill Catholic Church. Following their marriage they farmed in Cherokee County for many years. Paul was a board member of the REC, a representative of Grinnell Mutual Insurance, President of Cherokee Farm Bureau, President of the Cherokee County Fair Board, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul also worked as a salesperson at the Gildner-Sauer Clothing store in Cherokee, Iowa. Paul's family felt that he was the best popcorn maker, tractor and car driving teacher, and fishing mentor which he greatly enjoyed doing for his grandchildren. He is survived by his three children: Donald Kohns, and his wife, Jeanette, of East Grand Forks, MN, Elaine Johnstone, and her husband Jim, of Glendale, AZ, and Larry Kohns of Olathe, KS; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Austrid Carlson on December 8, 1992; two sisters (Josephine Smith and Marie Eischen); and one brother (Lawrence Kohns).
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa.

VISITATION
Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:30 P.M., followed by a rosary with the Knights of Columbus at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa.
