Paul Lawrence Naab, 68 of Cherokee, Iowa passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Sept. 7 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Paul was born June 7, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa and grew up outside of Ocheyedan, Iowa. After graduating from Ocheyedan High School in 1968, Paul attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish.
He joined the Cherokee Police Department in 1971 and then joined the Osceola Sheriff’s Office a year later. He returned to the Cherokee PD in 1977 where he worked until 2005 when he retired as a Captain. During his time with the CPD, he had many assignments which included training coordinator, reserve unit liaison, special traffic enforcement program coordinator, and rode motor patrol where he found his passion for riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking his boys hunting and fishing. He never missed a grandchild’s birthday party and would keep everyone laughing with one his tales of adventure or bringing up his four wild children. He was also a member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Valerie, sons Troy (Rachel) Naab of Council Bluffs, Jeremy (Lindsay Washburn) McClure of Sioux City, daughter Danielle (Philip) Fuentez of Superior, son Josh (Meghan) McClure of Sioux City, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Lorna (Jones) Naab and his granddaughter Sarah.
In accordance with Paul’s wishes, there will be
no formal or graveside service.
