Paul Wollman

Paul Wollman Sr. was born June 13, 1929, in Oakville, Canada, to Margaret (Kleinsasser) and Zachariah Wollman. He had 9 brothers and sisters. At the age of 3 weeks old, he lost his father. When he was 2, his mother was remarried to Daniel Gross, in Tyndall, SD. At age 15, Paul moved to Yankton, SD, and worked at the Yankton Box Factory until he joined the army on September 15, 1950. He was stationed first at Ft. Jackson, SC, and after 8 weeks was shipped to Ft. Blisse, TX, for more training. On June 12, 1952 he was sent to Korea, and returned home a few days before Thanksgiving in 1953. From there he landed in Ft. Louise, WA, where he spent 6 months. He was then shipped to Ft. Carson, CO, where he received the bronze star, as well as several other medals-too many to mention. He remained in the Army reserves for 6 years. Paul was very proud of his service to our country. On September 22, 1956, he married his 5-year sweetheart, Emma Wipf. They moved to Cherokee, IA, and he worked for Wilson Foods for 24 1/2 years before retiring from there on May 1, 1992. He then returned to Yankton and worked for the Army Corp of Engineers until September 30, 2005. Paul and Emma enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. Paul passed away at his home in Cherokee on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at age 84. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Emma, daughter Barbara (Miller), and several of his siblings. He is survived by his children and their families: Paul (Suzy) Wollman Jr. of Merrill, IA, Margy Bolinger and Darlene Morris, both of Larrabee, IA, and Kathy Peterson (Bill Back) of Cherokee; a son-in-law Rich Miller of Sutherland, IA; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
