Roger Lee Tewes

July 15, 1938 — May 13, 2018

Roger Lee Tewes, the son of Ernest and Nellie (Baumeister) Tewes, was born July 15, 1938 in rural Hartley, IA, where he spent his childhood years and received his early education. He was one of fifteen children. On August 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Norene “Kay” Mugge. Following their marriage, they moved to Larrabee, IA, where he farmed for almost 50 years. During that time, four children were born; Lynette, Roxanne, Steven, and Diane.

 Roger loved going on fishing trips to Canada and also to Minnesota with family, several vacations to Las Vegas with friends, and many quick trips to local casinos. Overall, his greatest passion was farming and after retiring, his interest turned to gardening.  He enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. He also spent much of his time working in his yard planting trees and bushes to enjoy while sitting outside. Throughout his years, Roger looked forward to morning coffee with friends and spending time with his family. He was an active member of Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, IA.

 Roger passed away on his farm in Larrabee, IA on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his son, Steven; his parents; seven brothers; four sisters; and one sister-in-law.

 He is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Lynette and Tom Mummert of Larrabee, IA, Roxanne and Jeff Crew of Spencer, IA, and Diane and Terry Kiepe of Spencer, IA; seven grandchildren: Mike and Linda Mummert of Cherokee, IA, Breanne (Mummert) and Kevin Cedar of Larrabee, IA, Jennifer (Crew) and Josh Schaben of Spirit Lake, IA, Mike Crew and Mel Janssen of Iowa City, IA, Steven Crew of Iowa City/Spencer, IA, Katie Kiepe of Ames, IA, and Lexi Kiepe of Des Moines, IA; three great-grandchildren: Simon and Hanna Mummert of Cherokee, IA and Adam Richter of Larrabee, IA his brother: Orville Tewes of Paullina, IA; two sisters: Marjorie Petersen and Marlene Wills of Hartley, IA; one sister-in-law: Janet McFarlane of Sioux City, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, IA.
