Ronald A. Berg, age 81 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Wednesday, March 06, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Military rites will be conducted by the Cherokee V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post 2253, and the American Legion. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday night at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. There will be a prayer service and rosary following visitation at the church. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Ronald A. Berg, the son of Ralph and Helen (Hartigan) Berg, was born December 10, 1942, in Soldier, IA. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1961. He then served in the Iowa National Guard, serving a tour in Vietnam, where he received a Bronze Star Medal.

On October 9, 1965, Ron was united in marriage to Mary Walling at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. They were blessed with three children: Lonnie, Shelley, and Holly. Ron worked for Alliant Energy for many years.

Ron was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA, where he served as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and was also a Past Grand Knight of the Local Council. Ron was an avid fisherman, who was always curious about the latest fishing report. He especially enjoyed ice fishing and being outdoors. He was active with Pheasants Forever and the Cherokee V.F.W.

On Wednesday, March 06, 2024, Ron passed away at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, IA, surrounded by his family at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings:   Marilyn (Berg) Stiles; William “Bill” Berg; John “Jerry” Berg; Elaine (Berg) Rupp; and James “Jim” Berg and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Mary Berg of Cherokee, IA; son, Lonnie (Linda) Berg; two daughters, Shelley (Jamie) Otto, and Holly (Tim) Nash; grandchildren: Paige (Jim) Foley, Kristen (Adam) Luciano, Christopher Berg; Sophia and Allie Otto; and Logan, Christian, and Alexander Nash; his beloved sister, JoAnn (Ben) Reed; and his sweet “Backhaus Girls”: Janene (Mark) Braunschweig, Carla (Bruce) Peterson, and Sheree (Brad) Booth.  Ron is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Parker and Cherokee Regional Hospice for their outstanding care and loving support.
