Ronald Lee Wolterman

October 28, 1946 — September 13, 2021

Ronald Lee Wolterman, the son of Merle and Dorothy (Scott) Wolterman, was born October 28, 1946, in Omaha, NE. His childhood years were spent in Carroll, IA, where he attended school and graduated from Carroll High School in 1964. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he achieved the rank of E4/Specialist. During his enlistment he served in the Vietnam War as a Combat Engineer until his honorable discharge in 1968.

 Ron was united in marriage to Patricia Heithoff on June 4, 1968 and to this union they had four children; Christopher, Cory, Jason, and Jennifer. They later divorced. He married Ellen Chinn on June 19, 1981, and gained another daughter, Shirlene.

 Ron was employed with Iowa Electric / Alliant Energy as a gas mechanic welder from 1968 until his retirement in 2009

 Ron was a member of the Cross Roads Church in Cherokee. He served graciously when needed and was on the leadership team that helped with the Road Runner program. He was also a member of the Cherokee V.F.W. and participated in several V.F.W. activities.

  Family was everything to Ron. He cherished the time spent with them, whether he was camping, heading out on fishing trips, attending his grandchildren’s activities, wintering in Arizona with his daughter and family, or being Cory’s right hand man on one of his many projects. Ron had passion was riding his horse Patsy. He especially enjoyed riding in the Big Horn Mountains and the Black Hills. Ron was also active with the Cherokee Rodeo Board where he served as co-chair for several years, and in 2019 was the Grand Marshall for the rodeo parade.

 In his free time, Ron enjoyed reading Western’s, watching Western movies, morning coffee with his friends, and kicking back and enjoying a cheeseburger and Coke.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Dorothy Wolterman; and mother-in-law, Shirley Griffin.

 He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Ellen Wolterman; children, Shirlene (Matt) Smearman and their children, Trent, Logan, and Nick, Cory (Ann) Wolterman and their children, Emma (Tony) and Caleb, Jason (Jewell) Wolterman and their children, Jacob and Jameson, and Jennifer (Brian) Wymer and their children, Tanner (Theresa), Anna, Ruby, and Nolan, and; one brother, David (Alice) Wolterman; three bonus grandchildren, Chase, Tanner, and Emersyn Horton; sisters-in-law, Sue Wright of Cherokee, IA, and Kathy Chinn of Alta, IA; brothers-in-law, Bill (Gloria) Brady, Larry (Louise) Chinn, and Mike Chinn; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and amazing friends.

SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
