Shirley L. Smith, the daughter of Roy and Carrie (Hoffman) Heath, was born January 16, 1913, in Larrabee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, IA, where she attended and graduated from school. On December 21, 1943, Shirley was united in marriage to Chuck Smith. Following their marriage they resided in Cherokee, IA. Shirley taught country school for 14 years and worked at Sears for nine years. She enjoyed volunteering for the Archeological Society and spending time with her family and friends. She loved all kinds of animals, especially dogs and cats. She will be remembered for always having a positive attitude and finding good in everything. On December 23, 2014, Shirley passed away at Careage Hills in Cherokee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Carrie Heath; and her husband, Chuck Smith. She will be remembered by her nieces: Kay Elfrink of California, Mary Jo McKenzie of Arkansas, Terrie Wilcoxon of Arizona, and Claudia Ellis of Massachusetts; one nephew, Mark Martin of Arkansas; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
