Shirley (Stokes) Prunchunas

October 10, 1933 — February 24, 2011

Shirley Jean Prunchunas, the daughter of Leroy and Irma Fae (Cipperly) Goettsch was born October 10, 1933, in Holstein, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cushing, Holstein, and Quimby where she attended school. On August of 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Harold L. Stokes. They resided in Sioux City for 20 years with their six children. Throughout her life she worked as a CNA, dental assistant, and in the hospitality field. She also enjoyed driving people to their appointments and helping them with their errands. Shirley moved to Omaha, NE with three of her children and was remarried to John Prunchunas in 1976. She enjoyed cooking, collecting antiques, crafts, gardening, fishing, rock collecting, and traveling, which she visited Hawaii, Africa, and road trips across the U.S. Most of all, she enjoyed being around her family, especially her grandchildren. On February 24, 2011, Shirley passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Irma Goettsch; two sisters, Lauren in infancy and Helen; and one brother Leroy Goettsch. Shirley is survived by her six children: Gary Stokes of Sioux City, IA, Cynthia Young of Sutherland, IA, Linda Heath of Port Orange, FL, Perry Stokes of Sioux City, IA, Larry Stokes of Sutherland, IA, and Dawn Burkhart and her husband Mike of Cherokee; one sister, Darlene Sands and her husband John of Moville, IA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 28, 2011, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee.

A public gathering will be held from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present during that time.
