Tim Edward Kenan, age 77 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at Maryhill Visitation Cemetery, rural Cherokee, IA. Visitation with family present will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 4:00 p.m. prayer service Sunday, following visitation at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Saint Jude’s Childrens Hospital or Tunnels to Towers in memorial of Tim Kenan  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

 

Tim, son of Leo “Dave” Kenan and Ada Walker Kenan, was born on January 11, 1947, in Perry, Iowa.  He was raised on a farm south of Jamaica, Iowa.  He excelled in sports, playing football, baseball, and basketball in high school.  Tim graduated from YJB High School.  He went on to attend two years at Iowa Central Community College and then graduated from Buena Vista College, playing football at both schools.  Tim was an Activities Specialist at Cherokee Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, IA for 38 years, retiring in 2010.

 

On July 24, 1981, Tim was united in marriage to Sharon Henke Ebert.  Together they raised three children, Brad, Jennifer, and David.  Tim loved to coach little league.  He was the kids’ biggest fan.  Tim enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing slow pitch softball and attending many sporting events.  He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially giving mower rides to his grandkids.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ada Kenan Van Gundy, stepfather, LeRoy Van Gundy, sister, Trudy Kenan, Brothers/Sister-in-laws, Ron Henke, Ivan Bobolz, Steve Cosgrove, and Gayle Kenan; and father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Berniece Henke.

 

Tim will be remembered by his loving wife; Sharon Kenan, children; Brad (Cheryl) Ebert of Indianola, IA, Jennifer (Toby) DeMoss of Onawa, IA, and David (Nicole) Kenan of Ankeny, IA; brother, Terry (Carol) Kenan of Yale, IA, grandchildren; Noelle, Dylan, Richie, Trinton, Kaleb, Lucas, Mariah, Hope and DJ; In-laws, Pearl Henke, Robert and Carolyn Henke, Shirley Bobolz (David Neilsen), Connie and Don Wilson, Julie and Roger Ashbaugh, Jan and Denny Wieland, and Linda and Les Pedersen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
