Virginia M. Slechta

December 1, 1925 — November 6, 2017

Virginia Mae Slechta, the daughter of Fred and Nell (Hannan) Brown was born December 1, 1925, in Vail, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Vail where she received her education. On August 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Vurnace 'Bud' Slechta. In July of 1947, the family moved to Cherokee from Council Bluffs, IA. They were blessed with one daughter, Donna Droegmiller. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hasting, NE during World War II. She also worked as a clerk at Baumann's Bakery for 10 years and at Ward's for 10 years. Virginia was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, flowers, baking, and crafts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Virginia passed away on November 6, 2017,at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nell Brown; her husband, Vurnace Slechta, in 2013; and two brothers, Raymond and Fred. She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter, Donna (Veryl Droegmiller of Holstein, IA, one grandson, Brian (Kathi) Droegmiller of Merrill, IA; one granddaughter, Debbie Droegmiller of Cherokee, IA; great-granddaughter, Shayla Droegmiller; great-grandsons, Brady and Kolt Droegmiller; great-great-grandson, Jaxon Oliver Kirchner; great-great-granddaughter, Lilian Mae Kirchner;a special niece, Valley (Gayle) Lawson of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Lucy Curnyn of Denison, Iowa; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
SERVICES
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
