Wanda Sue Woltman

September 18, 1950 — March 22, 2019

Wanda Sue Woltman, the daughter of Merlin and Lorilla (Whiting) Resene was born September 18, 1950, in Cherokee, IA. She lived with her family in Aurelia, and had a wonderful childhood.  She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1968. She then worked at the MHI.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Herman Woltman on October 1, 1971 in Elk Point, SD. Through her life, Wanda babysat her nieces, nephews, and cousins at home. She and Herman were caretakers of Pleasant Hill and Afton Township Cemetery for many years, and also operated Aurelia Vehicles. In 1995, she graduated with a 4.0 from Buena Vista University with a degree in Human Services. She worked at Spectra and had a strong passion to work and advocate for people with disabilities. She was a BV County Case Manager and then Program Coordinator at Genesis Development. She then worked for DHS as a Targeted Case Manager for eight years. She retired in 2013.

Wanda touched many people’s lives over the years and was loved and respected in her life and career. Wanda loved horses, the TV show The Rifleman, going to the Black Hills/Badlands, and spending time with family. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, play, and succeed. She liked to mow, plant flowers, paint and refurbish old furniture, landscape her yard to perfection, shopping and home interior decorating. Any of the family homes could have been in a home decorating magazine.  She loved her Dr. Pepper and Long John Silver’s, dancing, singing, having fun, and just overall enjoying her life.  She absolutely loved going on trips and spending time with her sister Janny.

In 2013, Wanda started a courageous battle against cancer and had so many health issues.  No matter what she encountered health wise, she always fought hard and never stopped fighting to stay with her family. She passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019, at the B.V. Memorial Hospital at the age of 68, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Woltman; parents, Merlin and Lorilla Resene; brothers, Mike, Bob, Dick, and Ben.

She will lovingly be remembered by her two daughters;  Dena Woltman (Roger Davis) and Cassandra (Nick) Wiseman, all of Cherokee, IA., two sons; Brent (Patricia) Woltman of Aurelia, IA., and Shawn Resene of Dublin, Ohio; sister, Jan Calvert of North Liberty, IA.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Woltman (Nick Hartley), Samantha Paltz (Jake Ortwine), Brodie, Cash, and Archer Woltman, and Elijah Wiseman; two great-granddaughters; Shelby and Camille Hartley; two sisters-in-law, Jo (Jim) Johnson and Jeanie Woltman all of Cherokee, IA; two brothers-in-law, Rick (Crystal) Woltman of Cherokee, IA., and Richard (Margel) Woltman of New Ulm, MN.; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and caregivers that became friends.  She is also survived by her very close friend, Cheryl Salter.
