Wayne Hartig

August 28, 1915 — June 2, 2012

Wayne Hartig, former Manson resident passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center June 2, 2012 at the age of 96. He was born August 28, 1915 to John and Nina (Harmon) Hartig in Pocahontas, IA. When he was a small child, the family moved to Manson where he eventually went to Manson High School and graduated. On Ausust 18, 1941, he married Deloris Barnhardt at the Little Brown Church. They had three children: Richard, Lavonne, and LaDonna. During their years in Manson, he served in his church as a Sunday School Superintendant and was a member of the Manson Fire Department for 40 years where he served as Fire Chief for part of that time. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Wayne had a cream route for many years. Later he worked for Zehr and Geoders Appliance, Scharf and Beanblossom Plumbing and Heating, and then for Oyer's Plumbing and Heating until he started his own plumbing and heating business from his home. He retired from work at the age of 74. In 2004, he moved to Larrabee, IA, next door to his daughter so he could be closer to his family. Wayne is survived by his daughters, Lavonne Hartig of Cherokee, IA, and LaDonna (Mike) Enderlin of Larrabee, IA; daughter-in-law, Katey Hartig of Illinois; grandchildren: Christine Enderlin of Larrabee, IA, David (Dee) Enderlin of Cherokee, IA, Allen (Isabel) Hartig of Missouri, and Sherry (Andy) Brunner of Illinois; great-grandchildren: Daniel and Matthew Enderlin of Cherokee, IA, Cole Hartig of Missouri, Annabelle Brunner, Pierce Brunner, of Illinois, one brother, Don (Velma) Hartig of Manson, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Deloris Hartig in 1994; one son, Richard Hartig in 2001; his parents, John and Nina Hartig; four brothers; and five sisters.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the United Church of Christ in Manson, Iowa
