In Memory of

Clark A. Voge

April 13, 1966 - April 29, 2021
From: Cherokee, IA

On Thursday, April 29, 2021, Clark Allen Voge, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at Accura Health following a very brief illness at the age of 55. Clark was born April 13, 1966, in Cherokee, IA to Gerald and Laura (Krogman) Voge.

Clark attended grade school and high school in Cherokee. He graduated from Washington High School in 1984. Clark was very athletic and actively participated in wrestling and football.  Clark attended Northwestern College in Orange City on a wrestling scholarship and then transferred to Westmar College. Clark joined the Army and proudly served his country for 22 years. He did a combat tour in Iraq in 2004 as first class Platoon Sergeant Voge with the 482nd Transport Company. He successfully handled all missions assigned to as convoy commander without any loss of personnel. Clark sustained one mission that lasted 50 days and over 4,000 miles driven. He has kept in touch with his platoon buddies all these years.

On July 13, 1991, Clark was united in marriage to Tiffany Munson in Cherokee, IA. They were blessed with two sons, Dawson and Connor. The couple later divorced. On October 1, 2016, Clark was united in marriage to Dawn Gehrts. Through this blessed union, Clark gained four children, Ashley, Adam, Melanie, and Amber whom he loved as his own.

Through his working career, Clark worked over 30 years at the Hy-Vee Distribution Center. Proud of his work and was fortunate to make so many friends there. He also worked various jobs through the years prior to his time at Hy-Vee.

Clark had a passion for fishing and golf. He also enjoyed slow pitch softball and bowling. He spent many nights umpiring little league baseball games and coaching youth baseball and  wrestling, a sport he loved. He always took the time to attend his boy’s sports events. Clark also enjoyed scratch off tickets and was very lucky having won  the big prize three times. He enjoyed going to Sparky’s with his dad and talking with everyone there. Clark was also an avid rock  music lover, especially ACDC and Kiss. He was a fanatic about grilling and smoking meat and was always trying to find the perfect rub. He made wonderful steak and boy was his smoked brisket, turkey, pork, salmon, and ribs were amazing.

Clark was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved watching them on Saturdays and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Clark and Dawn enjoyed traveling together and went on many destination vacations with family members. Their best was a memorable Caribbean cruise which was so much fun. “Making Memories” was their motto.

Clark also enjoyed working in the yard and growing grass, landscaping, tending to flowers, and feeding birds. He worked hard on his plentiful “Voge Garden.” The last thing he purchased and was in the mailbox the day he passed were blue Lillie bulbs. He asked Lydia what color of flowers she wanted to plant with his this year and she said “blue because Papa, that’s your favorite color.”

Family meant the world to Clark. The door was always open. “Staying for supper? I’ll grill something” was a standard welcome. Planning family outings was fun for him, whether it be Voge movie night at the theater, game night, golf, fishing, or camping. He enjoyed Saturday sleepovers with his “lil sweetie” granddaughter Lydia. Shadow puppets, book reading, pool, the park, water table, donuts, gardening were all things he adored with her. He was known for his quick wit and generous heart. A great listener and had good advice. He would drop everything to help somebody.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his loving wife and soul mate Dawn Voge of Cherokee, IA; six children: Dawson Voge of Cherokee, IA, Connor Voge of South Sioux City, IA, Ashley (Monty) Flaugh of Larrabee, IA, Adam Gehrts of Cleghorn, IA, Melanie (Todd) Bauer of Holstein, IA, and Amber (Tyler) Pearson of Marcus, IA; granddaughter, Lydia Pearson and soon to arrive "baby Bauer" grandson ; brother, Chris Voge of Elkhorn, NE; uncle, Pat (Anne) Voge of Iowa Falls, IA; Aunt, Karen (Carroll) Perkins of Jefferson, IA; Aunt, Jyl Voge of Lincoln, NE; aunt, Lois Voge of Galva, IA; mothers-in-law, Diane Watts of Aurelia, IA and Loreen Moneypenny of Holstein, IA; beloved family, Charlotte (Chris) Quinney of Hickory, NC, Clinton Watts of Readlyn, IA, Misty (Joe) Daum, Allison and Madison of Cherokee, IA, Brian (Jessica) Watts and Evan of Riverside, IA, Dale Tibbetts of Cedar Falls, IA, Travis Tibbitts of Wilmington, NC; and several cousins, and many friends.  He also loved his dog, his shadow  and buddy Max.

Clark is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Laura Voge; grandparents, Leo and Celestine Krogman and Walter and Geneva Voge; uncles, Dennis William, Allen, and Paul Voge; father-in-law, Ralph Watts; and granddaughter, Olivia Bauer.

“What a surprise... way too soon. Havenโ€™t connected with Clark in a while but always remember the first time I met him. When I moved to Cherokee in the middle of my JR year of High School he lived right across the street. Clark wasnโ€™t a big conversationalist then but he was helpful. Told me the lay of the land and people of Washington HS, helped me clean up our new house before the rest of my family came to town, and was a great fishing buddy. My sympathies, Chris, and Clarkโ€™s family. ”
